In the historical centre of Český krumlov

 Since 1993

The house has been in our family care since 1993, when it was in a state of disrepair, to say the least. We got to work.

The house has undergone extensive renovations, with the architect following the Krumlov tradition and renovating the house to what it is today, only in darker colors.

Slowly we repaired and expanded the house. We started with the restaurant. Then came the rest - cellar, lounge, rooms, apartments, terraces, balconies.

And that was until the next major renovation in 2009, when the facade took on a lighter appearance thanks to its historical foundations.

Since then, we have been modernising, accommodating, preparing and caring for, repairing and improving. Again this year, you can look forward to interior refinement and new flooring.

Since we first opened our doors we have welcomed over 2000 guests and we look forward to welcoming you too.

No. 42 Soukenická Street is not only an architectural treasure - although its classical form, gothic cellars and unique portal in the mezzanine are a real gem. Above all, it is a living memory. Every crack, every layer of paint, every piece of stone bears the imprint of someone who once lived, worked or dreamed here.

Today, the house offers cosy accommodation at the White Lady, which combines the charm of former times with the comfort of the present. Perhaps it is here, in one of the flat-ceilinged rooms overlooking the quiet street, that you will hear the stories of the old inhabitants whispering in the twilight.

House Soukenická No. 42 is not just a house. It is a piece of the soul of Krumlov. And its story lives on with every story - if you just walk through it... or if you stop here for a while.

 Classicism + Romanticism

We have kept this form thanks to the plans, which were preserved by the builder Johann Štěrbík in 1884. He documented the changes to the house, including the resulting classical and romantic elements.

The first classical alterations to the house took place before 1800, and transformed the house into the form we know and see to this day. For the first half of the 19th century the house was occupied by the Stockinger family, after whom the house belonged to Josef and Anna Babler until the 1940s. At this time, the house was first adapted to its current classical romantic form.

But the history of the house goes back much further. If its walls could talk, they would whisper stories about centuries of human destiny, life changes, quiet evenings by the fireplace and the bustling city.

Before the regular rhythm of wheeled suitcases inscribed the street, the house witnessed the lives of townspeople, craftsmen and scribes. You can take the cellar area, which still hides an old well, as a living memory.

The first references date back to the 16th century, when a certain Jira Hrachovec, later perhaps a miller from the nearby Peckovský mill, stayed here. It was not until 1572 that a man named Jerome Steiner arrived. The house remained in his family for over sixty years, until 1634. There is also a reference to the scribe Franz Josef Reichhardt, who in the evening gloom bends his head over a parchment while the town is slowly falling asleep.

In 1770, Josef Resk, a saddler, moved into the house and practiced his trade. In the first half of the 19th century, it was home to hosiers and the Babler family, who stayed until the 1940s.
